HUD Allows Senior Communities to Open Up Housing
to Superstorm Sandy Evacuees
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued guidance that allows communities designated as housing for older persons to open up vacant units to Superstorm Sandy evacuees under the age of 55 without jeopardizing their qualifications under the Fair Housing Act.
Under HUD’s new guidance, a private housing provider for older persons anywhere in the United States can make units available to evacuees under age 55 and continue to be compliant with the Fair Housing Act’s requirements.
