It’s looking like the New York-White Plains-Union metro area will deliver the most apartment units in 2016, bumping Houston from the top spot.

Houston delivered the most units in 2013 and 2014, and with its 16,900 units slated to come online this year, it should stay on top. New York is expected to deliver 14,681 units this year, putting it in third place, after Dallas’ 15,883 units.

But in 2016, New York has 11,843 new units identified for delivery, compared with Houston’s 5,461. In fact, Los Angeles will jump from fifth place in 2015 to second in 2016, with 5,777 new units expected. Houston will move to third place.

The Brooklyn submarket’s 3,902 units will dominate New York deliveries in 2016, making up 32.9 percent of the market’s total deliveries. It will be the largest submarket for new apartments in the nation.
